DSP Issue 7 // Having Fun With It
Microfiction, poetry, and musings from among the stars.
Dear reader,
Do you ever struggle with your creative pursuits?
In a world of hustle culture, a million advice columns on how to do something, it’s easy to get caught up in all the shoulds!
One only has so much time and energy.
I struggle with that often. However, learning to treat writing as something I do for fun as well as work has been a great decision!
I’ve been writing much more for fun and working on my main project as a stress-reliver. Because if you’re not in the right headspace to do the work, the quality suffers, and no one wants that!
It’s a slow process, but I’m learning to make peace with it.
Writerly Segment
What I'm Writing
As you may have noticed, I’m releasing a short story every Sunday on here as part of a collection called Just Another Galactic Castaway.
I hope you’ve been enjoying those! I’ve written 45 short stories this year, and there are more on the way.
What I'm Revising
Still working on the newest version of book two of The Mara Files! Mara’s Choice is a little frustrating to work on, but it’s coming together.
I’ve had to cut out many scenes as they weren’t necessary to the plot. It’s good because it’s becoming a better story, but it’s hard to let go of the work!
All worth it to make the best book I can.
Literary Segment
What I'm Reading
Currently listening to a fantastic Victorian high society/steampunk/scifi mashup called That Inevitable Victorian Thing.
Also read the final book in the Railhead trilogy, which was fantastic. It’s such good scifi and so underrated.
What I'm Eyeing
I’m going to read the Not Your Sidekick series by C. B. Lee, and the next book by Becky Chambers when it comes out in July.

There's no outside galaxy, only sublight radio transmissions. It suits her. Why else would she have taken it on?
Not because everything went wrong. No. There's always the sinking realization that this was a bad idea.
With the system's humming and the thud of the beacon generator, it's constant.
